Studio Nick Verstand / Design Museum Ghent
ANIMA III (2020) is an art installation that investigates the emotional relationship between humans and artificial entities, through the use of texture, motion, light and sound. The works third iteration is created location specific for the Design Museum in Gent (BE) inspired by Jan van Eyck’s oil painting techniques.
Naivi developed the application that computes (in 3D) a fluid like simulation that can be mapped onto a spherical canvas using a hemispherical lens. The 3D geometry is re-projected using a custom lens distortion process, before being output to the beamer. This creates a seamless, spherical projection, in the physical space. The artist can pre-visualize the result in 3D, in a separate window, without having the installation connected to his computer. We also developed a custom preset blending system, that blends the beautiful presets over time, evoking a trance-like state. The application is built using NAP Framework.
